This article considers the ideological and semantic dominants in the headlines of James Mace’s publicist works. Interest in the writer's works is caused by several factors: a high degree of professionalism, an incontrovertible influence on the reader's consciousness, and an additional semantic value of content owing to the psychology of a writer, non-Ukrainian by origin. Analytical presentation of social problems provides clues to understanding how the world community perceived Ukraine in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The study has revealed that structurally the titles fall into two groups: a simple title (a word, a phrase, a sentence with a complete thought) and a complex title that combines several independent but logically completed parts. The communicative essence of headings has been studied from the standpoint of the functions of the “addresser-addressee” system (nominative, informative, evaluative-expressive, mnemonic, appellative, and graphically-accentuated). The focus of the study is on the supporting elements of the headings, which provide insights into the content of the article or, on the contrary, intrigue the reader and thereby encourage them to read the published material in full.
