The Dominants of Lesia Ukrainka’s Poetic Syntax

Abstract

The article shows the formal-grammatical and stylistic factors of Lesia Ukrainka’s poetic syntax, especially stylistic devices, word order and placement peculiarities of the parts of the sentence. Lesia Ukrainka’s poetic language verbalizes amplification artistic device. Amplification helps to create visual images. Amplification of affectionate word-forming units creates an intimate-lyrical tone of narration. Extended syntactical constructions with gradation are important features of Lesia Ukrainka idiostyle. Lesia Ukrainka’s poetic syntax focuses on anaphora with common and adjoining elements. There is not only anaphora, there are different kinds of repetition: framing, epiphora, chain repetition, root repetition, polysyndeton. Emotional highlighting of the word in Lesia Ukrainka’s language is closely connected with the inversion of the attribute.

A place of the attribute in the sentence affects on its expressiveness. The farther it is from the subject the more significant it is.
