Stylistics of Punctuation Marks in Lessia Ukrainka’s Dramatic Texts
Abstract
The article reveals the peculiarities of dramatic poem in general, and the role of punctuation in characters’ colloquial speech; it singled out the simple (period, semicolon, colon, dash, parentheses, quotation marks, comma, ellipsis, exclamation mark, question mark) and complex (question mark and exclamation mark; question mark, exclamation mark and period; two exclamation marks; two exclamation marks and period; three exclamation marks; combination of exclamation mark, question mark and ellipsis; exclamation point, and twoperiods; question mark and two periods) punctuation marks that Lessia Ukrainka used in her dramatic texts; it is analyzed different types of syntactic constructions which are specific to characters’ dialogue speech; it is examined the specificity of punctuation system in author’s text and characters’ speech; it is outlined the meaning of punctuation in intonation pattern reproduction of dramatic work; the remarks are classified by topics in Lessia Ukrainka’s dramas.
